Shakespeare, a unique hamlet of antiques, crafts and artisan foods

The Hamlet of Shakespeare, situated 10 mins east of Stratford, has a North America wide reputation for its quality antique shops and informed dealers and appraisers ranging from silver to Asian antiquities to Canadiana. It Is an antique lovers mecca with over half-dozen quality shops within a one block radius. A wide range of one-of-a-kind collectables, from 19th century Ontario pine furniture to European and Asian curios, will tempt you.

Shakespeare also has many fine food shops from Mennonite pastries to cheeses and one of the best purveyors of meats in Southern Ontario - you can't miss The Best Little Pork Shoppe with its over-sized pig mascot in the front yard and its excellent selection of locally made specialty foods. Other shops offer a wide range of unique crafted items created by local artisans and artists including Mennonite and Amish Quilts and a wide range of one-of-kind keepsakes.

The following are the recommended places to browse the afternoon away followed by an afternoon tea break:

“Stratford itself is the type of walkable wholesome town Rodgers and Hammerstein might write a musical about.”
