Doors Open Stratford to Mark 70 Years since end of WWII in 2015

For Immediate Release: September 5, 2014
Stratford, ON:

Doors Open Stratford is one of more than 50 community events across Ontario inviting people to visit local heritage sites. The Doors Open committee works closely with Stratford Tourism Alliance to bring Stratford's heritage to life during a one-day free event on the first Saturday in June (June 6, 2015) as a part of our annual Heritage Weekend celebrations. The public is invited into spaces often not open to the public. In 2014 more than 3,400 site visits to 14 different locations were recorded, a 40% increase over 2013.

In 2015 it will be 70 years since the end of WWII and as our theme, we would like to visit buildings and sites that relate to this historic event in Stratford or key activities taking place during that time period. The committee is looking for buildings and sites willing to welcome visitors for one day. We are eager to include a couple of homes built in the mid-1940s, especially in the Glastonbury Drive area, a new subdivision at that time. We are also interested in artifacts and art items that could be displayed during the weekend.

If you are interested in participating and have something to share, please send your suggestions to Ernestine McKenna, committee chair or Cathy Rehberg at Stratford Tourism Alliance or call 519-271-5140. We would appreciate receiving information by September 30.

Alison Fryer, Grand Tasting host commented "The Grand Tasting is by far one of my favourite events at Savour Stratford, a gem of a culinary festival in Ontario's farming heartland. Ingredients and tastes come together in such a satisfying way; care and respect is given by the chefs to the farmer's products. Drinks are a standout, and not just alcoholic, but non-alcoholic as well."

Thank you to the judges, chef Bryan Steele from The Prune (Stratford), Top Chef Canada's Dale MacKay (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), sustainable seafood chef James Walt (Whistler, British Columbia) and our host Alyson Fryer (Toronto) of The Cookbook Store.

Savour Stratford Thanks Sponsors, Donors and Community For Their Continued Support

(Stratford, ON) Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival presented by GE Café (July 19-20) raised a glass to salute its sponsors and donors at The Parlour Inn (accommodation partner) on Monday, June 9. Niagara's Reif Estate Winery, the festival's wine sponsor unveiled their signature Savour Stratford Riesling and Cabernet Merlot. Community sponsors were the first to taste the signature wines in appreciation of their support of the culinary festival.

Respected Ontario vintner Klaus W. Reif is a leader in establishing VQA wines in Ontario. Klaus will present a guided Tutored Talk and Tasting of back vintage wines from Reif Estates own wine library. Festivalgoers can taste the Savour Stratford signature wines at the open -air Mill Street Beer and Wine Pavillion, the Taste of Ontario Artisan Alley and Sunday Grand Tasting presented by Scotiabank. In addition the Savour Stratford labeled wines will be for sale in the Farmers and Artisan Market, local LCBO and a number of local restaurants with $1 from every bottle sold being donated to the Local Community Food Centre.

Stratford's celebration of food could not happen without the support of our sponsors and donors. Our generous sponsors and community support are at the heart of the festival and it is because of these efforts that the festival continues to win accolades.

Savour Stratford expressed their gratitude to everyone who participates in making this culinary celebration possible. For a complete list of sponsors, more information and tickets visit
